Murphy: "My Husband Is Not Shady"
Brittany Murphy was so shocked by tabloid reports about her new husband's shady past she hired a security team to check him out. The actress stunned Hollywood when she secretly wed producer Simon Monjack last month and she has spent the past few weeks defending the Brit amid reports he's a conman who owes hundreds of thousands of dollars and faces deportation. But Murphy insists she has no problem standing by her man, because she's confident the reports of his past shady dealings are all "preposterous lies." The Little Black Book star tells In Touch Weekly magazine, "Everything was just so fabricated and hurtful." Despite reports Monjack rushed to wed the actress to avoid deportation after outstaying his work visa, Murphy states her new husband has lived in the U.S. for 15 years and that their families have known each other for years. She claims the reports were fabricated by a "crazy ex-assistant" or a "crazy former girlfriend." She adds, "We're trying to figure it out."
-------------------------Murphy's Husband Defends His Reputation
Actress Brittany Murphy's new British husband insists the numerous arrest warrants and civil lawsuits logged against him are normal procedure for a successful businessman. Producer Simon Monjack wed Just Married star Murphy earlier this month after just four months of dating. Last week, U.S. tabloid the National Enquirer exposed the Brit as an illegal visitor and dug up information suggesting Monjack has a civil judgment against him and a series of felony arrest warrants. But Monjack, who faces a court hearing about his future in America in July and could be kicked out of the country, insists his reputation is being tarnished by people jealous of his success.
He tells American publication Us, "Like all businessmen, I have faced many lawsuits. It is a real tragedy that success, greed, envy and celebrity are the motivation for attacking my family and character." Monjack's lawyer claims all cases against his client have either been dismissed, are settled or are being resolved. He also expects the arrest warrants to be dropped.
---------------------------Murphy Wed Last Month
Brittany Murphy has confirmed reports she is a married woman after tying the knot with British screenwriter Simon Monjack in Los Angeles last month. The 29-year-old actress's nuptials come nine months after she ended her engagement to best-boy grip Joe Macaluso, who she met on the set of Little Black Book.
The Sin City star's representative tells People magazine, "They were married at their home in Los Angeles several weeks ago in a very intimate ceremony. It was officiated by a rabbi and they were surrounded by their families." Wedding reports started over the weekend at the Kentucky Derby, where the couple were spotted wearing wedding rings. A joint statement from the newlyweds reads, "This was our first trip as a married couple. We came to the Kentucky Derby and had a wonderful time." Murphy is set to star in her husband's forthcoming movie The White Hotel, which he is both writing and directing.
-------------------Murphy Marries Boyfriend
Sin City star Brittany Murphy has wed her screenwriter boyfriend Simon Monjack. The 29-year-old actress and Monjack were seen wearing wedding rings at a Playboy magazine event at the Kentucky Derby on Saturday. A source tells UsMagazine.com, "They didn't want photographers to take pictures of their rings because they were waiting to make a formal announcement." Murphy called off her engagement to ex-boyfriend Joe Macaluso in August 2006, following an eight month relationship. She was also engaged to talent manager Jeff Kwatinetz for six months in 2004.
