Pregnant Richie Denies Smoking
Socialite Nicole Richie has denied reports she is smoking during her pregnancy. The 26-year-old, who is expecting her first child with Good Charlotte rocker Joel Madden early next year, has refuted claims in the New York Post that she is struggling to quit the habit. Richie's publicist has branded the report "irresponsible and untrue."

Nicole Richie is a free woman after serving just over an hour of a four-day sentence in prison. The pregnant socialite was booked, released and sent home in an 80-minute spell at the Century Regional Facility in Lynwood, California on Thursday. A spokesman for the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department explains prison population levels prompted officials to release Richie after the briefest prison spell.
In a press release, the sheriff's spokesman writes, "At this time, the criteria for a female arrestee sentenced to 30-days or less for a non-violent offense is as follows: the arrestee is booked, screened and usually released within 12 hours. This procedure is based on jail overcrowding to manage population levels mandated by Federal Court guidelines. Based on the mandated guidelines and Ms. Richie's 96 hours sentence, she will be treated in the same manner as other inmates with a similar sentence." Richie was charged with a misdemeanor Dui on July 27 and was sentenced to 36 months of summary probation. If she violates probation, she will have to serve one year in jail. Richie was arrested on Deceember 11 when she found driving her Mercedes Benz the wrong way down California State Route 134 highway in Burbank, California.
After failing an on-field sobriety test, Richie admitted to having smoked marijuana and taking a vicodin painkiller. Richie is five months pregnant with rocker boyfriend Joel Madden's baby.
------------------------Richie Engaged?
Pregnant socialite Nicole Richie agreed to marry boyfriend Joel Madden on Thursday, a U.S. radio DJ reported. Hot 99.5 morning show host Kane made the announcement at a Friday party in Virginia, where Madden performed with his band Good Charlotte. Following the set, Kane told guests, "He got engaged yesterday. Congratulations, Joel!" And despite receiving no reaction from Madden, the DJ is sticking to his story, telling People.com, he offered his congratulations to the rocker earlier in the night and "He said, 'Thank you so much.'" Kane adds, "They're very excited about the baby and the wedding. They want to keep their personal life personal." It seems the secret is already out though - while quizzing Madden about his relationship with Richie on his show on Thursday, TV personality Regis Philbin asked, "You're going to present her, maybe, with... A little ring, or something?" A shocked Madden replied, "I was hoping it would be a surprise, but now..." Richie is four and a half months pregnant with her first child with Madden.
-------------------------Richie Aims To Be Mother Her Child Can Look Up To
Reality TV star Nicole Richie is determined her upcoming jail sentence will change her into a person her unborn child can look up to. Richie, who is four months pregnant, was sentenced to four days in jail after pleading guilty to driving under the influence last month, and she has until September 28 to physically serve her time. But the 25-year-old The Simple Life star insists she has learned her lesson. In an interview on Good Morning America, Richie said, "I owe the baby my life. I owe this baby everything and I have a responsibility now. I'm now responsible for someone else. I need to set the right example. I would really want to be someone my child would look up to."
