John Travolta's Gayspray
------------------------------John Travolta has denied 'Hairspray' is a "gay movie". The staunch Scientologist has enraged gay-rights campaigners by taking on the role of Edna Turnblad in the remake of the cult film - the role played by late drag queen Divine in the 1988 original. Travolta said: "There is nothing gay in this movie. I'm not playing a gay man." The 'Saturday Night Fever' star also denies Scientology is in any way homophobic, despite many reports of the religion's attempts to "cure" homosexuality.
He said: "Scientology is not homophobic in any way. In fact it's one of the more tolerant faiths. Anyone's accepted." Travolta also spoke of his frustration regarding the delays to the movie remake of cult 80s TV show 'Dallas', in which he is to star as Texas tycoon J.R. Ewing. The 53-year-old said: "They've paid me for 'Dallas,' so I'm contracted, but they have had five scripts, none of which has worked. "There's another attempt being worked on, which I hope will be possible." Jennifer Lopez allegedly quit the part of J.R.'s wife Sue-Ellen amid reports she did not get on with Travolta.
John Travolta's drugs slam
------------------------------John Travolta says psychiatric drugs are to blame for tragic high school shootings. The outspoken Scientologist believes "psychotropic" medication "is at the bottom of" the Virginia Tech massacre, the Columbine shootings, and other similar incidents. Travolta told W magazine: "I still think that if you analyse most of the school shootings, it is not gun control. It is psychotropic drugs at the bottom of it." However, the 53-year-old actor isn't planning to jump on Oprah Winfrey's couch to get his message across like fellow Scientologist Tom Cruise.
He said: "I don't disagree with anything Tom says. How would I have presented it? Maybe differently than how he did, but it doesn't matter." Cruise famously declared his love for Katie Holmes by leaping up and down on Oprah's show. Travolta recently revealed he flies by private jet to the Church of Scientology headquarters in Clearwater, Florida, five times a week to study the religion. The actor often works through the night on the religion's "auditing" programmes - because they help him lead a better life. He said: "It's a one-on-one programme that's designed to help you handle life."
John Travolta's Addams Family
-----------------------------------John Travolta says his family are "like the Addams Family". The 'Wild Hogs' star - who lives with his wife Kelly Preston and their two children Jett, 15, and Ella, seven - has revealed his family stay up all night and sleep through the day to avoid prying paparazzi. He told Parade magazine: "We're like the Addams Family or the Munsters, living a sort of odd, nocturnal life. "My kids probably stay up too late. My wife goes to bed around 3am, and I follow around 7am - but it works." Travolta, an experienced pilot, has taken drastic measures to protect his family's privacy.
They live in inaccessible air ranch north of Ocala, Florida, which boasts the longest private residential runway in the US. Meanwhile, Travolta will be seen sporting a dress in his role of Edna Tumblad in a re-make of the film 'Hairspray' later this summer.
John Travolta's baby plans
------------------------------John Travolta and wife Kelly Preston are going to try for another baby. The 'Pulp Fiction' star and the actress - who already have two children, Jett, 14, and seven-year-old Ella - have revealed they are keen to add to their family and have set themselves a fertility timetable. John, 53, said: "I was told by Kelly that at the end of the summer we're going to try." Kelly, 44, added: "We'll try after we finish the movie we're doing together, 'Old Dogs', with Robin Williams and our daughter Ella. So after that!"
The 'Saturday Night Fever' actor has made no secret of his desire to have more children and recently spoke about the joys of parenthood. He said: "I really like having kids. I enjoy their energy and it keeps everything wonderful and hopeful. I grew up with six kids in my family. I thought I would have five or six.
"It's fascinating watching your kids growing up, because they're yours and they're beautiful and they're constantly changing and offering you new thoughts and ideas, so I love watching them grow up. They're your future, really."
